Началось тестирование мода доступности для Terraria

Hey everyone,
I’ve been making some pretty awesome progress on a Terraria accessibility mod. Since I have a working build at this time, I thought now would be a good time to start gathering playtesters, and developers. I’ve been using OpenAI’s GPT-5 Codex model to dive through the Terraria files and the tModLoader documentation, and it’s been an absolute powerhouse for getting this thing off the ground.
I’m really proud of how far this has come in just about a week. So far, the mod can do full main menu reading, full inventory, equipment, and accessory reading, and even screen reader announcements for whatever object, tile, or interactable your smart cursor is currently focused on. If you turn smart cursor off, it’ll still read whatever tile your cursor is on, which makes building a lot easier.
That said, please don’t buy Terraria solely to use this mod right now. It’s still very early in development, and while there’s a lot working, it’s not what I’d call “fully playable.” At this stage, you can gather resources, build your first home, explore underground, and mine. So there’s definitely something here to experiment with, but it’s not ready for a complete gameplay experience yet.
There are two big reasons I’m posting this. First, I’m uploading the mod to GitHub tomorrow to get more eyes on the project. I’ve made a ton of progress solo with Codex, but this project could really take off with some collaboration, whether that’s more Codex users or experienced programmers from the community contributing pull requests.
The second reason is that I’m looking for playtesters. If you understand that this mod is still early but want to help test and provide feedback, your input would be incredibly valuable. I played Terraria when I was sighted, so I already know the mechanics—but I need insights from players who’ve never played before, to understand what’s confusing or inaccessible from your perspective.
Installing the mod is a little tricky since it uses the tModLoader API, so here’s how to do it. First, download the provided .tmod file from this link:
Google drive.
Next, launch tModLoader at least once to allow it to generate all of the necessary folders and configuration files. Once that’s done, place the downloaded .tmod file into your Documents → My Games → tModLoader → Mods folder. Then copy your NVDAControllerClient.dll file into the TModLoader directory (in your Steam folder). Launch TModLoader again, go to the Workshop menu, and hit Build + Reload, and you should hear speech feedback right away.
At this stage, you’ll likely need sighted assistance for the initial setup, since screen reading isn’t available on the main menu before the mod is built. Once it’s running, though, everything becomes much more accessible.
This mod is focused on gamepad use for now—aiming, movement, and building are all much easier this way. I may add full keyboard support later, but for now, you’ll definitely want to use a controller. There’s currently a bug on the single-player menu: if you don’t have an existing player, the focus doesn’t land on the “New” button. I’ve been trying to fix it, but developer help would be appreciated. For now, using mouse keys is a decent workaround to move your cursor over the button manually.
I’m actively working on new features every day, and things like NPC dialogue reading should be ready for testing soon. My only real limitation at the moment is Codex usage—I’m on the $20/month plan, not the $200 one—but even so, I’m still making steady weekly progress.
Please don’t purchase Terraria expecting a full experience yet. This is mainly a call for developers and patient playtesters who want to help shape something great from the ground up. I’m confident about where this project is heading, especially given how much has already been accomplished in such a short time.
I’ll also be posting a Codex tutorial soon in the Articles section, so those who want to learn how to use Codex for pull requests can join in. If you have any questions, suggestions, or feedback, feel free to leave them below, and I’ll check back in the morning.
And again, please do not purchase this game thinking it’s a full-fledged accessibility mod. This is a call to arms for fellow developers and playtesters. If you do decide to purchase and try this mod out just because you’re curious, remember that Steam does offer a refund if you have not owned the game past a certain length of time, and have not played the game past a certain length of time.

Обновление мода от 22.10.2025
New version 0.1.1 is available!
Pretty minor updates, and a couple bugfixes here and there.
Google drive .
Minor Change:
When installing the mod now, you should theoretically be able to simply copy both the tmod file and the enabled file into your mods folder in order to avoid the step of having to reload mods in the Workshop section of the Main Menu. I have tested this on my machine, and it did work, but I am eager to see if this works on your machines as well. Please note, if you are using other mods alongside this one, you may want to keep your original enabled file, so those other mods stay enabled as well.
Additions:
Tooltip Support
Now when navigating around the spoken interfaces like your inventory, chests, equipment, etc, you will be able to read the tooltips of the items you focus with the gamepad. Pretty neat.
Cursor Reset and Locator Sound
Now, when you disable Smart Cursor, the Cursor will automatically be placed in the middle of your screen. On top of that, your cursor will now emit a gentle synthesized tone when it moves around, which will gradually pan left and right depending on its position relative to the player, and pitch relative to verticality. These changes help immensely with locating your cursor.
Bugfixes:
There was a bug where if you were to hit down on the directional pad in the inventory on inventory slot 31, you would not be able to navigate to the right or left. This has been resolved, so you are free to navigate your inventory in peace.
I am aware of a couple other bugs that have been posted in the general chat, and I will be working on some of those tomorrow alongside some new features ideally. Please post any bugs in the new bug channel on Discord so I can keep track.
Enjoy the update!
